Rihanna has downplayed reports she will star in a movie about Whitney Houston.

The 24-year-old singer is a huge fan of the pop star, who died in February aged 48.

Although Rihanna has said that Whitney is one of her 'big music icons', she insists she has no plans to appear in a film about her life.

Following speculation about the biopic, the Bajan star revealed she has not been approached by movie bosses.

"[It was] just rumours. I never heard anything like that,' she told MTV News.

Last month, Rihanna gushed that Whitney was someone she 'looked up to' and the superstar had inspired her to pursue a music career.

She also sent the rumour mill into overdrive by admitting she would love to portray the star on the big screen.

'I didn't get that call yet,' she said about the movie. 'That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do because I would want to really pull it off.

'That's a huge, huge role and whoever does it has to do a good job.'

Rihanna recently made her movie debut in the action movie Battleship.
