U2 to play at the BRIT awards
U2 are to perform at this year's BRIT Awards.

The Irish rockers will debut new single 'Get On Your Boots' at the ceremony which takes place on February 18 in London.

Ged Doherty, Chairman of the BRITs committee, said: "We're thrilled to confirm U2 have chosen the BRITs for their first global TV performance of their new single."

Another BRITs spokesperson added: "U2's addition to the line-up makes it possibly the best we've ever had."

Also confirmed to appear at the prestigious event, which celebrates the best of British music from the previous year, are The Pet Shop Boys, who will perform after collecting the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize.

Although the nominations have not been released yet, it has been confirmed Florence and the Machine will receive the Critics' Choice award, which recognises new talent.

The BRITs will be hosted by Kylie Minogue and TV comic duo Mathew Horne and James Corden, who star together in hit British series 'Gavin and Stacey'.

The full list of nominations for the awards will be announced on January 20.
