Katie Melua almost died after sleeping on a hotel balcony
Katie Melua almost died after falling asleep on a hotel balcony.

The 'Closest Thing To Crazy' star was enjoying the view of the Manhattan skyline at a party on the eighth floor of a New York hotel when she nodded off and came close to plunging 70ft to the street below.

Katie revealed the incident on her blog, saying: 'I had a near miss with death on a hotel balcony in New York after having had too little sleep, where you think you’re dreaming and you can fly.'

Her spokesperson later explained what had happened, saying: 'Katie had been on a tour of America, travelling around, just her and her guitar. She was at a party, had a few drinks and was very tired.

'Outside on the balcony she was sitting on the railing. She’d had too little sleep and was dreaming but unfortunately this was while she was on the railing.'

The sleeping star was soon noticed by a fellow reveller, who ordered her inside saying: 'I've had a really good night and I don't want it to be ruined with, ...,and then this girl fell off the balcony.'
