George Michael suicide claims 'absurd'

Claims George Michael tried to commit suicide by throwing himself from a moving car have been blasted as 'absurd'.
Claims George Michael tried to commit suicide by throwing himself from a moving car have been blasted as 'absurd'.

The British singer was involved in an accident in the UK last week, when he fell from the Range Rover he was travelling in. Witnesses say he only narrowly escaped being hit by on-coming traffic on the motorway, with the singer airlifted to hospital by helicopter.

He suffered cuts and bruises and has been kept in the treatment centre as a precaution due to his head injury.

There has been intense speculation about how the 49-year-old ended up on the road and one of his friends has now spoken out to quiet the rumours.

'There is no mystery ' he was just trying to shut the door. George has been perfectly happy and is in a great place. To insinuate that he threw himself out of the car is absurd,' the pal told British newspaper The Mirror.

The source insists George has been happy of late. His accident comes after a spate of incidents which saw him cancelling shows due to pneumonia and then putting more concerts on hold as he battled severe anxiety.

'George has been writing a new album and is really pleased with what he's done so far,' the friend added.
'It was an accident and he is the first person to put his hand up and say, 'I'm sorry.' He deserves more sympathy.'

Police are currently investigating what happened on the busy motorway and are said to be planning to talk to George and the driver and other passenger in the car.

Earlier this week, Katherine Fox came forward to give an account of the incident. She was driving behind the Range Rover when George fell out and had to brake hard to avoid him. She then used her car to shield him from other traffic as he lay in the road.

'George didn't say anything, he just seemed in shock,' Katherine explained. 'He was sitting down against a car and in the arms of his friend.

'The guy holding him was quite scared. He kept saying to George, 'Are you all right mate?' I think George was lucky he didn't die.'
