Sir Elton John says TV talent shows are a "shortcut to disaster".

The British musician has an impressive career that spans over forty decades, and is highly respected across the globe for his talent. Elton believes reality singing competitions are detrimental to the music industry.

"Television is not a good way to have a start of a career. It''s a shortcut to fame and it''s also a shortcut to disaster," he told the BBC.

"When you win the X Factor you have a year until it''s the next person, and then you get dropped. The proof of the pudding is The Voice. The single didn''t get into the top forty, they''ve cancelled the live tour."

Aside from performing, Elton is enjoying time with his family - partner David Furnish and son Zachary. The 65-year-old star would welcome a new addition in the future, and admits he was wrong to initially think he never wanted children.

"It proves you''re never right all the time. I haven''t loved a human being more than him, ever," he revealed, before adding of extending his brood: "When it''s time, we probably will. I''m now the happiest I''ve ever been."

Elton says parenthood will become his primary focus when Zachary is of school age.

"While I''m feeling good, I''m going to keep working. When Zachary goes to school, that''s another different thing," he said. "I want to take him to school and I want to pick him up. I don''t want to miss that part of his childhood."
