Kylie planning baby spending spree

Kylie Minogue hopes her new album sells well, so she can afford to spoil her sister's baby.
Kylie Minogue hopes her new album sells well, so she can afford to spoil her sister's baby.

The 'Wow' singer can't wait to welcome Dannii Minogue and Kris Smith's first child into the world this summer and is already planning a spending spree for gifts for the new arrival – but admits she is concerned about the cost.

She is quoted by website Absolute Now as saying: 'I haven't bought anything yet but trust me, I will be. My album better sell because I will be getting so much stuff. I am so excited.'

Kylie, 41, must be planning a particularly huge spending spree if she needs to save up for it, as her accounts reveal she earned an average of over £11,000 a day – around £4.1 million over the year - in the UK tax year 2008 to 2009.

Much of the money made by Kylie in this time was through her 'KylieX2008' world tour, which netted £2.8 million. The rest was made by record sales and royalty payments.

A financial expert told the Daily Mail newspaper: 'For a singer who has been around for quite a long time it is incredible to be still earning money at this level. There are few pop stars who can sustain themselves at the top for so long. This shows that Kylie Minogue is among that select band.'

Kylie first hit the UK charts with single 'I Should Be So Lucky' in 1988 and after an initial chart run lasting into the 90s, lapsed into obscurity in Europe.

She successfully launched a comeback in 2000 and is now regarded as one of the most successful pop acts in the world.

Kylie's as-yet-untitled next album is set for release this summer.
